Wedding Pictures

Hi all.

Married life is treating us fabulously and thankfully although the actual travel-honeymoon is over, the honeymoon still is alive and well and we’re trying to be careful not to alienate everyone we know by just being home-dwellers who can’t tear ourselves apart from one another.  :)

Keld is off golfing this weekend in Denmark with The Order (one of the large Danish contingents at the wedding) while Petra is at home competing in her last triathlon of the season.  A WHOLE weekend apart, can you believe it??  :(

Next week Petra is off to Buenos Aires for a week+ of work and then shortly thereafter both of us will head to San Fran and Toronto (work for Petra, play for Keld!).  We’ll visit Keld’s family in Toronto so that will be really nice.

Hope all is well with everyone.

Love

Petra and Keld

The pictures are great. Everyoned looks so beautiful and handsome, especially you and Keld (your Dad really looked good in his uniform). I watched the video too.

If you could, could you let me know some Dutch wedding traditions that you used? My fiancee and his family are all 100% Dutch so I want to use some Dutch traditions. Unfortunatelyy, I am not Dutch so I don’t know too much about it! Thanks for your help.

As requested, here are some Dutch traditions. We didn’t really focus on them at all as we focused on Danish and American but here are some Dutch traditions we were aware of.

    • When engaged, Protestant people will wear the engagement ring on the left hand and wear the wedding band on the right hand. Vice versa for Catholics.
    • If the bridal couple wishes to marry in church, they first have to marry at city hall since the church ceremony is only a blessing service.
    • When leaving church or city hall, guests will throw rice (represents fertility).
    • The Master of Ceremony (MoC) is the manager of the day and will make sure that everything runs smoothly to ensure the couple have an enjoyable time.
    • There will be at least three speeches during dinner. First the father of the bride will speak, followed by the groom and the MoC.
    • Guests might perform a song, dance, play, poem or speech during the reception, dinner or party.
    • The bride and groom open the party with the first dance.
    • The bride offers bridal sugars (sugared almonds) to her guests when they leave the wedding celebration.
    • Traditionally female guests will not wear white or black to a wedding, however, it is more common nowadays to wear black.
